immunisation

We do provide immunisation for people at risk and for travelling purposes as well as child hood immunisations.

Flu Vaccine:

Influenza (‘flu’) is a highly infectious disease that usually occurs during the winter months. Most people will fortunately recover from flu within one week but for many people including the elderly and people with heart and lung disease it may cause serious complications including bronchitis and pneumonia.

It is therefore recommended for these people at risk to have an annual flu vaccination.

These risk factors include:

  • Age over 65
  • Serious breathing problems (e.g. severe asthma)
  • Serious heart conditions
  • Severe kidney or liver disease
  • Diabetes on medication
  • Immunosuppression e.g. after chemotherapy, people without spleen

Pneumococcal Vaccine (‘Pneumonia jab’)

This protects from conditions like pneumonia, septicaemia, meningitis caused by a bacterium called Streptococcus pneumoniae or Pneumococcus. It is also recommended for people over 65 and people with underlying health problems including:

  • Serious breathing problems (e.g. severe asthma)
  • Serious heart conditions
  • Severe kidney or liver disease
  • Diabetes on medication
  • Immunosuppression e.g. after chemotherapy, people without spleen
