what's new? Practice website We would appreciate your feed back about our website. Please let us know if there is anything in particular that you would like us to include.
Dr Astin - GP registrar started at Weston
We are pleased to announce the arrival of Dr Charlotte Astin. She has recently started as a GP registrar at the Weston surgery after having completed her hospital training. She will be with us for 2 years.
Introducing Dr Fountain - our new partner
Hello! I’ve lived and worked as a Doctor in Bath for 12 years. My hobbies include hill-walking, gardening and any sport that isn't life threatening or too expensive! I am enthusiastic about working in General Practice and particularly enjoy Paediatrics, ENT and General Medicine. I am looking forward to working with such a great team.
Dr Hartley-Brewer's 21st
Dr
Val Hartley-Brewer took over the Practice 21 yrs ago and is responsible
for making the practice what we are all so proud of today. Val will
be retiring as a partner in April. We are delighted that Dr Andy Fountain will be joining us as a new partner in August this year. Andy is a good friend and is already known to many of you as he has been our favourite locum for the last few years. He will start part-time initially, but we hope will rapidly increase to full-time as our list size permits. Dr Joerg Oertel will be working full time from April.
Dr Cary - GP registrar at Rush Hill
Another new addition to the team is Dr Susie Cary, our GP registrar. Susie is already an experienced hospital physician who is now training to be a GP. Susie will be with us part-time for the next 2 years.
New Year new habits?
Promoting Pilates Just to show that we are not all talk and no action we thought we would share a photo of a team away-day Pilates Class. Pilates is great exercise for strengthening muscles in general and tums in particular.
Why not treat your body and try Pilates in 2008?
Passport to Health
continues to produce fantastic results:
Would you like to share in their success? If so, please see Jayne Ball our Health Care Assistant or one of the Nurses for referral.
Nursing Team news Jayne Ball our Health Care Assistant has increased her sessions to provide extra Health Promotion appointments at both surgeries (health checks, dietary advice, exercise referrals). Jayne’s extra appointments have taken pressure off the Nurses who will now have more time available to support people with chronic illnesses and also to help people give up smoking. Please ask for a special Support to Stop appointment if you are ready to quit and want to improve your success rate. Using nicotine replacement can double your chance of quitting - structured support from the nursing team can triple it! The NHS website gosmokefree also has helpful information.
Walk you way to fitness We like Billy Connelly’ s simple advice for losing excess weight “EAT LESS - MOVE MORE” Proven benefits from walking:
We would really appreciate volunteers to help run surgery based walking groups — if you can help, please contact Coliette Lyons our Practice Manager.
Help us to help you - volunteers needed! We are planning to set up a Volunteer Group to help our patients maintain their independence. This project will be a joint venture with RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme). The aim will be to use our younger retired patients to assist the elderly or housebound. Examples of the type of help that would be of benefit are: checking that people have groceries and heating on discharge from hospital, transportation to and from surgery; befriending the isolated or recently widowed, a library book service and basic DIY (tap washers, light bulbs shelves etc), but we are open to suggestions. We have a co-ordinator who is raring to go - we just need to put her to good use! If you have ideas or feel you can help please complete the slip & hand it to reception or contact Rosie Murton:
Telephone: 01225 446087 A PLEA FROM THE PRACTICE NURSING TEAM! Please contact the practice as soon as you book your holiday if you think you might need immunisations or malaria tablets Some vaccines need several weeks to be effective. Please fill a form in at reception so that the Nurses can advise exactly what you need to keep healthy on holiday.
